A Plea for Righteous Judgment

2 “How long will you judge unjustly
and show partiality to the wicked? ^{e

3 Provide justice for the needy and the fatherless;
uphold the rights of the oppressed and the destitute. ^g
4 Rescue the poor and needy;
save them from the power of the wicked.” ^h

5 They do not know or understand;
they wander in darkness. ⁱ
All the foundations of the earth are shaken. ^j

6 I said, “You are gods; ^k
you are all sons of the ^{▼▼Most High: The Hebrew word is Elyon. It is often used with other names of God, such as El (God) or Yahweh (Lord); it is used to refer to God as the supreme being.}Most High. ^m
7 However, you will die like men
and fall like any other ruler.” ⁿ

8 Rise up, God, judge the earth,
for all the nations belong to You. ^o
